Nein, gegenwärtig scheint es mit der Menschheit kein gutes Ende zu nehmen. Zu gering erscheint die übergeordnete Achtsamkeit, zu groß die Übervorteilung kapitalistischer Partikularinteressen. Die Hardcore-Punks von KILL THE PRESIDENT! blicken daher schon einmal in prophetischer Manier nach vorn und zeigen mit „Aftermath“ das Aufatmen nach dem Kollaps. Dass das gelungene Artwork ihrer zweiten EP nicht stellvertretend für den Gesamtinhalt steht, ist eher nebensächlich. Denn auch abseits des Titeltracks gibt es ausreichend kritische Töne. Und düstere Aussichten.
Ausdruck erhalten diese durch technisch versiert geschmetterte Genre-Kante mit Anlehnung an die jüngeren Werke von A WILHELM SCREAM und STRUNG OUT (Anspieltipp I: „Southern Winds“). Momentweise wird aber auch der moderne Hardcore á la COMEBACK KID gestreift (siehe Anspieltipp II: „Parable of the Modern Cave“). Damit setzen die vier Spanier, anders als das Gros der Bands im Raster des niederländischen Labels Morning Wood Records, keineswegs auf den Charme retrospektiver Punk-Klänge, sondern bemühen sich darum, diesen Wurzeln in der Gegenwart frischen Nährboden zu verschaffen. Das gelingt, wie auch der rockige Schlusspunkt „Shortage“ belegt, mit stattlichem Geschick. Damit nimmt zumindest „Aftermath“ ein gutes Ende. Das mit der Menschheit löst sich früher oder später vermutlich ganz von allein.
No, currently there seems to be no good end to humanity in sight. The superior attentiveness appears too low, while the excessive exploitation of capitalist special interests is too great. The hardcore punks from KILL THE PRESIDENT! are therefore looking ahead in a prophetic manner and demonstrate with „Aftermath“ the breath of fresh air after the collapse. The fact that the felicitous artwork of their second EP is not representative of the overall content is rather marginal. Because even apart from the title track, there are enough critical tones. And gloomy prospects.
These are expressed through technically adeptly blasted ruckus with reference to the more recent works of A WILHELM SCREAM and STRUNG OUT (listening tip I: „Southern Winds“). At times, however, they also touch on modern hardcore à la COMEBACK KID (listening tip II: „Parable of the Modern Cave“). Unlike the majority of bands on the grid of the Dutch label Morning Wood Records, the four Spaniards do not rely on the charm of retrospective punk sounds, but strive to give these roots a fresh breeding ground in the present. As the rocking closing track „Shortage“ proves, they succeed with remarkable skill. Thus, „Aftermath“ at least has a good ending. And the problem with humanity will probably solve itself sooner or later.
