Zunächst werden Glückwünsche fällig. Denn MISCONDUCT sind 20 Jahre alt geworden! Im Punk und Hardcore ist das keine Seltenheit, flößt aber dennoch Respekt ein. Vor allem, weil die Schweden nie zu den Großverdienern zählten. Ihre weltweite Fangemeinde ist trotzdem respektabel und dass sie die Jubiläumstour ausschließlich in die überschaubaren Clubs führt, stört wohl nur diejenigen, die nicht erkennen wollen, dass die goldene Genre-Ära der späten Neunziger lange verstrichen ist. Ihr Auftritt im Wermelskirchener AJZ Bahndamm zog etwa 80 Besucher an. Die aber verwandelten die Traditions-Location bisweilen in ein Tollhaus.
Ihren Anteil daran hatten ROOM6 aus dem benachbarten Remscheid, die als erste Vorband fungierten und samt Anhängerschaft über den gesamten Abend für reges Treiben vor der Bühne sorgten. Sie selbst erwiesen sich als solider Anheizer und gefielen durch melodischen Punk nach hergebrachter Bauweise. Vereinzelte Hardcore-Anleihen und mehrstimmiger Gesang waren einmal mehr die halbe Miete. Es ist immer schön zu sehen, dass im Punk noch (regionale) Combos nachwachsen. Und selbst wenn es der Selbstdarstellung auf der Bühne bisweilen ein bisschen zu viel war, stellte sich doch eine ausgelassene Stimmung ein. Da geht der Daumen klar nach oben!
Es folgten die niederländischen Jungspunde FEXET, die ihren Vorschusslorbeeren und dem Signing bei Kung-Fu Records vollauf gerecht wurden. Unaufgeregtes Auftreten, erstaunliche instrumentale Versiertheit und live spürbar rockigerer Melo-Punk sorgte für eine auch soundtechnisch restlos überzeugende Performance. Ihr Debütalbum „Airport Guys“ spielte der Vierer aus Den Haag nahezu komplett. Vor der Bühne tat sich bei ihnen wenig. Die Reaktionen des Publikums zeugten dennoch von großem Wohlwollen. Man darf gespannt sein, wohin es mit dieser hoffnungsvollen Entdeckung noch gehen wird.
Als Höhepunkt des Abends heizten MISCONDUCT dem bewegungsfreudigen Pulk anschließend ordentlich ein. Das rund einstündige Set bot einen hitlastigen Querschnitt aus allen Schaffensphasen, wobei die letzten beiden Platten „Blood On Our Hands“ und „One Step Closer“ erwartungsgemäß übervorteilt wurden. Für Freunde ihres ursprünglichen Sounds sorgten Old-School-Hardcore-Brecher wie „Face to Face“ oder „Fight Back“ für die nötige Wucht. In der Hauptsache aber war es melodisch-hymnischer Hardcore-Punk, der das Publikum mit Nummern wie „No Boundaries“, „Solution“, „Wasted Life“, „Closer“, „Just a Second“, „Family“, „Peace, Love and Unity“ oder „Side By Side“ konstant mitriss. Ein packender und insgesamt sehr lohnenswerter Abend. So müssen rauschende Geburtstagsfeiern sein!
For starters, congratulations are due – MISCONDUCT just turned 20 years old! In the punk and hardcore segment that’s not highly unusual, but nevertheless, one still has to respect their constant efforts. Mainly because the Swedes never were among the big sellers. Their worldwide fan base is still respectable. That their anniversary tour exclusively leads them in small clubs probably disturbs only those who do not want to recognize that the golden punk era of the late nineties has passed for a long time. Their gig at AJZ Bahndamm in Wermelskirchen attracted about 80 visitors who temporarily transformed the well-known location into a madhouse.
ROOM6 from nearby Remscheid had their share to that. They served as the first opening act and together with their supporters bustled in front of the stage throughout the evening. The band itself proved to be a solid heat up and presented traditional melodic punk. Hardcore bonds and several voices were once again half the battle. It’s always nice to see that punk combos still emerge on a regional level. And even if the self-representation on stage was sometimes a bit too much, the atmosphere was great. A clear thumbs up!
They were followed by the Dutch youngsters FEXET who did their laurels and the signing to Kung-Fu Records full justice. Unagitated appearance, amazing instrumental proficiency and a more bulky live sound bundled their melodic punk to a completely convincing performance. The Den Haag four piece played its debut album „Airport Guys” almost completely. Although the movement in front of the stage came to a halt during their show, the reactions of the audience proved nevertheless a great benevolence. It will be quite interesting to see where it will go for this promising discovery.
As the clear highlight of the evening, MISCONDUCT proofed great enthusiasm and had the audience instantly on their side. The hit-packed one-hour set offered a cross section from all creative periods. As expected, most songs came from the last two records, „Blood On Our Hands” and „One Step Closer”. Old-school hardcore tracks like „Face to Face” or „Fight Back” also satisfied fans of their rough original sound. But mainly it were melodic, anthemic hardcore punk tunes like „No Boundaries”, „Solution”, „Wasted Life”, „Closer”, „Just a Second”, „Family” or „Peace, Love and Unity” which aroused the constant agitation of the crowd. An absorbing and overall very rewarding evening. That’s how birthday parties must be!
